A few days before my 40st birthday, I received my elite racing license! My coach texted me and said I should sign up for epic races. Not sure what exactly he meant with that, but when the sign up opened for Norseman I gave it a try. After all I have never been to Norway and but I have run/hiked up mountains before... Here is the Norseman 10 year anniversary video.
I gotta admit I like flat courses the most and this will not be flat. I am also a fair weather rider and this will be not.
3650 people applied for a spot paying a fee of 10$ which will be donated to Doctors without borders (awesome idea). 250 got a slot. Me included, I applied for an Elite slot, as those are rather hand picked than a random lottery. The entry fee was just over $400, cheaper than an Ironman branded race.
The swim starts in a Fjord off a ferry, a 2.4 mile swim to shore and then a 112 mile bike that goes over 5 passes and through all kind of weather, and you finish up the marathon hiking up a ski peak.
Sounds like fun, right? More info on their homepage <www.nxtri.com/> .
This race will be my A-race of 2017 as it comes with the highest costs. Each r/>acer has to provide his/her own crew that are aid station crew, transition crew and so much more. One team member also has to accompany the runner on the last few miles up the peak for safety reasons.
After the awesome fundraising for Team Carla in 2014 for the Ironman World Championships, I decided that the season 2017 with all my races will be a team effort again. Please consider donating to this effort as a company or private party, no amount is too small. I appreciate all and any kind gestures. Because I had a couple big donations the last time, I have a special offering for those: Donations of $500+ will include a print on my race kit that will be worn at all my races and of course social media/homepage shout-outs throughout 2017. Please contact me via FB, email, text, messenger, this homepage or find the donation PayPal button on the front page (please choose gift to avoid the 10% paypal cut).
Estimated tentative costs for the Norway race are (includes boarding for entire crew):
Flight Portland - Oslo: $1000
Race entry fee: $450
2 hotel rooms pre-race (3 nights): $922
2 hotel rooms post-race (2 nights): $707
Rental car (5 days): $950
So a total of $4029 would be needed to cover a majority of the costs for this race. I will have a running tally on this page. Supporters will be part of my entire season. That will - besides Norseman- include 3 Ironman branded races (2 fulls and 1 half). Race schedule will be posted soon.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
