I am excited for 2017. Last week my coach Chris and I put together my race schedule. Well, for the first time, he picked my races, which makes the challenge even more exciting. Looks like a super though year as most races will help prepare for my A race (see below), I will post my tentative race schedule later.
I got picked for the Norseman xtreme challenge. Each year about 3000 people apply for the 250 start spots. It is a random draw, but they also handpick elites, so I applied for an elite spot (you need to submit race results). To my surprise, I am one of 5 female elites!
This will be a challenge, as I like flat courses (this is not) AND I am a fair weather rider and like it hot (this is not). Check out the video from last year or nxtri.com.
So since this race will be my most expensive with travel, rental car, crew and vacation time, it will be my A-race. August 5th 2017.
This race is unsupported, meaning I will have to provide my own crew who leap frogs me with a rental car. In addition, one of my crew members has to accompany me on the last few miles to the top of the mountain (granted I am in the first 160 and/or in the time limit).
I have currently 2 tentatively confirmed crew members, both from Colorado and used to the high elevation. I could possibly take up to 2 more, if someone would like to tag along.
I have been playing with the thought of making my race season another community project (Team Carla). I am not changing anything from when I raced as an age grouper, except that I have an elite card now and get to start with the really big names a few minutes earlier. And I will try to give you all the insight via these blog posts...

I will update with exact costs here soon, so far I have only reserved 2 rooms at both hotels, which totals approximately $1500 and looked at flight prices (approximately $1000 per person. I like to at least pay for the hotel rooms and the rental car for the entire team. So if we could fundraise about $2500 that would help out a lot.
